Conditions We Treat
At St. Louis Sports Medicine, we treat orthopedic sports injuries – and so much more.
As a board-certified chiropractic physician, Dr. Anthony Miller is qualified and experienced in treating a wide range of injuries to the musculoskeletal system – the intricate interplay of muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, cartilage, and nerves that allows us to move.
Musculoskeletal damage may be caused by a sports injury, on-the-job injury, car accident, or other types of accidents. Damage can also occur as the result of an acute or chronic medical condition. We also often treat post-surgical patients who require physical rehab to relieve post-op pain and regain full function and mobility after surgery.
Some of the most common conditions Dr. Miller at St. Louis Sports Medicine treats include:
Spinal Conditions
Back pain and neck pain are perhaps one the biggest reasons people visit chiropractic physicians. These issues are often accompanied by a limited range of motion. Because of this, back and neck pain are leading causes of disability in the U.S.
Pain along the spine may be due to conditions such as:
- Arthritis
- Cervical stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Fracture
- Herniated disc (also called a ruptured disc or slipped disc)
- Ligament sprain
- Muscle strain or tear
- Osteoporosis
- Pinched nerve
- Repetitive strain
- Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction at the pelvis (a common cause of hip pain)
- Sciatica
- Scoliosis
- Spinal misalignment
- Spinal stenosis
- Spondylolisthesis
- Trauma
- Whiplash
Lifestyle factors can also play a role in causing or worsening your back or neck pain. These include poor posture, obesity, a lack of exercise, inadequate stretching, heavy lifting, uncomfortable footwear, prolonged sitting or standing, and stress.
Extremity Issues
Acute or chronic pain in the arms or legs – especially at the joints – is so common that most people will experience joint pain at some point in their lives. In addition to pain, extremity issues can impair your flexibility and range of motion.
When the pain targets an area of your body, it may indicate a particular type of injury or damage. For example, shoulder pain often indicates a rotator cuff injury or arthritis; knee pain may indicate a ligament or cartilage tear; elbow pain is commonly due to tendonitis; and foot or ankle pain may be the result of inflammation or an ankle sprain.
Conditions that can cause problems in the extremities include:
- ACL tear
- Ankle sprain
- Bursitis
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- Fibromyalgia
- Fractures
- Frozen shoulder
- Gout
- Headaches and migraines
- Infection
- Inflammation
- Labral tears
- Muscle spasm
- Neuropathy
- Osteoarthritis
- Overuse
- Pinched nerve
- Plantar fasciitis
- Pulled muscles
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Sciatica
- Sprains and strains
- Tarsal tunnel
- Temporomandibular (TMJ) disorder
- Tendonitis
- Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS)
